What is Registered Massage Therapy (RMT)?
The profession of Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) has evolved to become a primary health care modality in many Canadian Provinces. The RMT profession in BC is regulated by the College of Massage Therapy of BC (CMTBC). This central governing body works with the Provincial Government, under the Health Professions Act, to provide regulatory mechanisms that ensure public safety and a standardized educational format focused on providing successful registrants a minimum level of competency in the RMT profession. To further ensure on-going professional competency the CMTBC requires all registered massage therapists to complete a minimum 24 hours of approved continuing education courses (CEC’s) every two years.
Ready to book your RMT appointment?
The health care profession of Registered Massage Therapy is far more advanced than typical body work or relaxation massage. There is a misconception that Massage Therapy is purely a feel good stress relief treatment. Although there are Registered Massage Therapy professionals who work with stress related issues this represents a small percentage of treatments.
The ultimate goal of Massage Therapy is to improve soft tissue and joint health through the manual manipulation of soft tissue, connective tissue, muscles, ligaments, and tendons coupled with therapeutic exercise. There are numerous evidence informed techniques employed with the ultimate goal of reducing pain, speeding up injury recovery, and improving movement performance.
There is a significant and growing field of Registered Massage Therapy that is focused on pain relief, injury recovery, and movement performance. This is the aspect of the industry that Strike Recovery & Performance is best known for.
Why Use a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT)?
Health care professionals with the designation as a Registered Massage Therapist or RMT have completed a minimum of 2200 hours of College level education. The basis of the educational curriculum is centered around evidence informed solutions to soft tissue and joint problems. In addition to having minimum passing grades all registrants have successfully passed rigorous Provincial exams based on academic knowledge and practical hands on skills.
The importance to you is the assurance that any health care professional with the RMT designation has the proven ability to provide safe and effective health care for your soft tissue and joint dysfunction.
