FAQ’s
What do I need on my first visit?
Personal information to bring:
- Care card
- Claim number (ICBC/Worksafe BC)
- Extended insurance information
- For first appointments: Please come 15 min earlier than your scheduled session to fill out intake forms
- Athletic attire for ease of access to soft tissue treatment sites (ie. shorts, t-shirt)
What to expect on your first Physiotherapy/Chiropractic appointment
During the initial assessment, several key steps are taken to thoroughly understand your condition and design an effective treatment plan. The process generally involves the following:
- Medical History Gathering: The therapist will sit down with you to discuss your medical history, including any past injuries, surgeries, medical conditions, and current medications. This information helps them understand your overall health status and potential factors contributing to your current condition.
- Reason for Visit: You’ll provide details about the specific reason for your visit. This could be related to pain, mobility issues, or any other physical discomfort you’re experiencing.
- Physical Examination: The therapist will perform a physical examination to assess your range of motion, strength, posture, and any functional limitations. They may ask you to perform certain movements to evaluate your condition further.
- Functional Assessment: Your posture and movement patterns will be evaluated to identify any imbalances or abnormalities that might be contributing to your condition.
- Palpation and Touch: The therapist may use their hands to palpate and assess areas of pain, tension, or sensitivity to better understand the nature of your condition.
- Discussion of Goals: You and the therapist will discuss your treatment goals. This could include reducing pain, improving mobility, enhancing function, and achieving an overall better quality of life.
- Treatment Plan: Based on the information gathered from the assessment and your goals, the therapist will formulate a customized treatment plan. This plan may include a combination of exercises, manual therapy, modalities (such as heat, ice, or electrical stimulation), and education about self-management techniques.
